Nearby Gardens

If you are coming to visit Juniper Level Botanic Garden from out of town, you may wish to extend your visit to include nearby gardens.

We are only a short 30 minute drive from the J.C. Raulston Arboretum, featuring an important collection of ornamental woody landscape plants, as well as a world-famous perennial border.

Duke Gardens, an hour from Juniper Level Botanic Garden features an extensive native plant garden, an Asian plant garden, filled with amazing exotic plants, and a number of other wonderfully landscaped areas.

The UNC Botanic Garden in Chapel Hill, 45 minutes to the northwest has a strong emphasis on regional native plants, with a lovely display garden and education center.

The Sandhills Community College Gardens is just over an hour southwest of Juniper Level Botanic Garden, and features a mature holly collection with over 400 cultivars, along with a number of other beautifully landscaped areas.

Montrose Gardens, and hour northwest of Juniper Level is an extensive private garden, with a huge collection of small bulbs, cyclamen, and other perennial and woody plant treasures, that is open by appointment, along with some regularly scheduled tours.

The Charles Keith Arboretum, about 1 hour northwest of Juniper Level, is probably the most extensive and diverse collection of trees east of the Mississippi. This private arboretum is the handiwork of Dr. Charles Keith, and will be most appreciated by knowledgeable woody plantsmen.

Nearby Restaurants

Juniper Level Botanic Garden is somewhat "out in the country" and there are no restaurants that are truly close. Within 10 miles though, are some major crossroads that have typical fast food and chain eateries. These locations include:

  • ...the Highway 42/Highway 40 intersection
  • ...the Ten-Ten Road/Highway 401 intersection
  • ...the section of highway 70 from the highway 401 split to highway 40

JLBG's out of town visitors often like to explore Raleigh while they are here. Raleigh has a vibrant downtown restaurant/shopping scene in a revitalized and trendy neighborhood called Glenwood South, which is about 12 miles north of JLBG.
