Since 1988, Juniper Level Botanic Garden, a world class private botanic garden whose mission includes ex-situ plant conservation, study, education, breeding, propagation, and plant distribution has been entirely funded and supported by a portion of revenues from Plant Delights Nursery, Inc., at the rate of 15% of gross sales. At any one time, over 1,500 of the perennial plants displayed in JLBG are for sale in the adjacent nursery.

Thirty years later, approaching retirement age, owners Tony and Anita Avent executed legal documents with NCSU and the JC Raulston Arboretum in 2016 to gift their entire estate to the JC Raulston Arborteum. In addition to this gift, the financial advisors at NCSU require Juniper Level Botanic Gardens to fully fund a $17 million dollar operational endowment before this merger can commence.

Please give generously now to the Juniper Level Botanic Garden Endowment here.

The Avents feel time is of the essence now for funding this endowment as they are aging and any unforseen health circumstances will make closing the nursery and gardens necessary. The interest accrued from this fully funded NCSU endowment for Juniper Level Botanic Garden will cover the ongoing daily operational expenses, programs, and staffing of the Juniper Level Botanic Gardens for many generations to come.

Will you support these two global horticultual giants as they merge to create a one of a kind resource for plant research, plant genetics, plant preservation, plant education and appreciation? JCRA and JLBG combined hold the greatest collection of plant genetics in the World which is critical in the face of climate change.

This endowment will fund and maintain JLBG's ongoing plant research, taxonomy, plant science and exploration, plant breeding, and plant education and outreach work for future generations to experience, to learn, and to advance the horticultural legacy Tony has established over the last thirty years. The Juniper Level Botanic Garden Endowment is administered by The Endowment Fund of NC State University, a tax-deductible 501-C-3. Please help us protect and preserve these gardens for our children's children, and their children, and many generations to come.

Volunteering

For nearly 30 years, JLBG has relied on a loyal staff of volunteers who regularly assist the JLBG staff with maintaining and tending the display and research collections.

If you love to feel your hands in rich garden soil, be serenaded by birdsong, and experience the peaceful, grounded energy of plants, please consider devoting several hours a week to joining the JLBG volunteer staff. JLBG volunteers assist the JLBG staff as they plant, tend, mulch, and care for JLBG's unique, rare, and native plantings.

JLBG is home to more than 23,000 taxa (different plants) collected in partnerships from around the world and is likely the largest and most diverse collection of taxa on display in the US.

Volunteering is a rewarding and intimate opportunity to learn and experience why JLBG is a global destination of serious gardeners and expert plantsmen.

And to sweeten the volunteering offer, JLBG's garden cats are likely to assist and entertain you while you work!
